Defining Excellence – This strand includes sessions that describe how educator preparation programs define excellence in curriculum, clinical experiences, and overall. Sessions can describe how schools/colleges/departments of education evaluate themselves; how they respond to others who define excellence for them; assessments that they use; how data are used for continual improvement, and other related topics.
Reflecting on the Promise of Educator Preparation – This strand includes sessions that address the national and international teacher shortages; the impact of great programs on communities and schools; creating a new narrative about teaching and educator preparation; and other sessions about the hope and promise of teaching and teacher education.
Sharing Practices that Work – This strand includes sessions that describe best practices in clinical experiences, retention of students, recruitment of students, fundraising, curriculum, use of data, addressing diversity issues, and more. This strand also includes practical sessions on understanding and setting budgets, descriptions of promotion/tenure practices in various schools/colleges/departments of education, and other practical aspects of running teacher education units.
Describing Purpose – This strand includes sessions on how schools/colleges/departments of education navigate the fundamental tension of creating citizens vs. workers; of preparing scholars or test-takers; and other philosophical tensions in today’s climate.
